Regular blood tests before and during treatment allow our clinical team to assess your eligibility for treatment and provide ongoing care.
Below, you'll find details on the tests you need, when to take them, and how to share your results with us.
Blood tests before your consultation
You’ll need two blood tests, spaced four weeks apart, for your doctor to determine your eligibility for treatment. These can be taken in any order.
- Test 1: Leger Testosterone Blood Test (available on our website for £29)
- Test 2: Leger Complete TRT Blood Test (£79 + £35 clinic visit)
If you require one or more of the above tests, please get in touch and we can order these for you. We will send you a payment link to pay for the test, and instructions on how to prepare for it.
Once you’ve paid for your test, our testing provider, Medichecks, will send your testing kit to you along with instructions on how to take your test either at home or at a clinic of your choice.
The Leger team will then review your results along with their comments and advise you on whether you are suitable for a consultation.
If you’ve already had a blood test from a different provider, please get in touch and we will review these and advise you on any further testing required.
Monitoring blood tests during treatment
Regular monitoring is important for continued treatment. Without up-to-date blood tests, we cannot make any necessary adjustments to your dose or issue repeat prescriptions. The most common monitoring schedule is as follows:
- 4-6 weeks after starting treatment – 6 Week Monitoring Blood Test (£52)
- 3 months after starting treatment – Complete TRT Blood Test (£79 +£35 clinic visit)
- Every 6 months ongoing – Complete TRT Blood Test (as above)
We will get in touch a few weeks before your next blood test is due with a payment link to pay for your test. Once paid, Medichecks will send your kit.
Once we receive your results, a member of the clinical team will review them and share with you, along with their comments.
Please note if your dose or treatment changes, you may need additional testing to the above.
If you are on gels or creams, you will need to have a venous blood draw for all your blood tests. This is because finger-prick tests can be contaminated by gels/creams, causing falsely raised testosterone results. A venous blood draw from the arm ensures the results are accurate.
Ongoing care
Your doctor will review your first post-consultation blood results and issue your first prescription. After that, your care will be managed by our advanced nurse and clinical practitioners, who are experts in testosterone replacement therapy. They will review your results, issue repeat prescriptions, and address any medical queries. If necessary, they will consult your doctor.
We aim to maintain your testosterone levels below 30 nmol for safety, as levels consistently above this increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and strokes.
When to take your test
We will send you instructions ahead of your blood test, advising you on the best time to take it. For testosterone, it is important to take your test in the morning (before 11am) as levels can fluctuate throughout the day, taking your test at this time will give the most accurate reading of your levels.
We will also send you a form to fill in giving us the time and date you took your test and any changes to your symptoms. This is so our clinical team can accurately interpret your results.
For patients self-injecting, your test needs to be taken at trough level, i.e. the day before or the morning of your injection, before administering it. As testosterone levels can vary quite significantly during treatment, testing at this point ensures getting the most accurate measurement of levels.
For gels, blood tests should be taken four hours after applying these, and two hours after applying creams.
Blood pressure
Measure your blood pressure before starting treatment and every three months thereafter. Affordable monitors are available online or at high street pharmacies.
You can provide your blood pressure readings to us by filling out the blood pressure form in your My Leger account.
Blood tests from external providers
To ensure the safety of our patients, we cannot accept blood tests from external providers for your monitoring. This is to ensure we can accurately identify your patient information and to avoid any delays in your blood testing schedule that could impact you receiving your medication.
Requesting repeat prescriptions
Once you have your blood results you can request your repeat prescription using the form in your patient account.
Please allow 3 working days for prescription requests.
