Here is some information about what equipment to order for each type of injection.
Equipment for injections:
We recommend sourcing the following equipment for each type of injection. We recommend using a website such as www.medisave.co.uk to purchase your equipment. It is advisable to ensure good quality, sterile equipment for injecting. If using companies such as Amazon or eBay, please be sure they are medical grade supplies. Most needles and syringes come in packs of 100.
Intramuscular injection:
1ml RDS (Reduced Dead Space) syringe x100
27g 0.75” needles x100 (if injecting into the deltoid)
25g 1” needles x100 (if injecting into the vastus lateralis, ventrogluteal or dorsogluteal)
23g 1” needles x100 (for drawing up your medication)
Alcohol swabs x100
Transferring glass ampoules to Multi Dose Vial (MDV):
10ml Syringe (optional, but can make transferring multiple ampoules easier)
18g blunt filter needle 1.5” x100 (used to ensure no glass particles when drawing medication from the ampoule, may not be required if you are confident breaking the glass ampoules)
10ml sterile MDV (can be difficult to find online, we can order these from Web Rx/APC Labs if required)
You would also use a 23g needle to inject the medication into the MDV
Subcutaneous injection:
Medications such as Cypionate and HCG can be draw up and injected with complete unit 29g insulin syringe. Enanthate is thicker and will need to be drawn up in a larger needle then switched for injection. Please ensure your insulin syringes are in millilitres (ml), some can come in units which can make calculating your dose more difficult.
Cypionate or HCG:
29g 12.7mm 1ml insulin syringe and needle complete unit x100
Enanthate:
1ml RDS (Reduced Dead Space) syringe x100
27g 13mm needles x100
23g 1” needles x100 (for drawing up your medication)
Alcohol swabs x100
Sharps bin:
Yellow 5 litre sharps bin for all injection equipment after use. Your GP may accept this for disposal, if not you can contact your local authority for disposal advice.
